The Office of the Public Guardian has recently launched a ‘Use a lasting power of attorney’ service. As part of their ongoing digitalisation and modernisation of the LPA process. This new service aims to make it quick and easy for attorneys and donors to share information with organisations. It grants them access to view an online summary of the LPA.
This new facility follows the introduction of last year’s ‘Track my LPA’ service. Which allows people making an LPA online to track the progress of their application.
After registering an LPA, attorneys and donors will receive an activation key. An online account can then be created, and LPAs can be added using this key. A donor or attorney can then generate an access code. They can provide this code to organisations to enable them to view an online summary of a registered LPA. This will mean that certified hard copies of the LPA will not need sending to each organisation. Thus making the administrative process quicker and easier.
There are over 4 million registered LPAs, so the new service will be gradually rolled out. LPAs registered from 17th July 2020 will initially be able to use the online service. Ther are further plans to roll out the service for LPAs registered before this date.
